The Marine Chain

The Marine Chain is a long strip of shallow ocean with many tiny islands, on the edge of a continental plate. Where the plate ends on the south side forms a deep trench with an eternal current traveling from the east to the west; this is Melora’s Road.

There are two major cities along the marine chain. The triton capital city Allento, and the sahuagin home Helbkb. There are many sahuagin and triton settlements along the chain, although the two don’t mix well.

Melora’s Road

The current that follows the Marine Chain around the world is an important part of global travel. The wind and current blunt storms and tend to weaken hurricanes before they can land at Haverness.

Conversely, the area between the road’s beginning and end (to the east of Grand Scar) is constantly whipped up and being battered by hurricanes due to the air pattern known to seafarers as Storm Figure.

Allento (ɽr!o)

Allento City is a popular stop among travellers. Its warm and humid climate supports dense jungle and hot weather creatures. Most of the city is built into the ocean floor, but a portion of it is built up on shore, mostly out of stone that was excavated in building the underwater parts of town.

Being largely underwater, most of the city is best suited for triton. Even so, there are substantial populations of humans and elves on the surface.

Allento has a thriving tourism trade and is known worldwide as the friendliest stop on the mercantile journey.

Triton

Amphibious fish-like humanoids who protect the seas of the Marine Chain from all manner of external and internal threats. Getting along with triton is easily done unless you're a sahuagin or a friend of sahuagin.

Helbkb (ḥɫ!`!)

The sahuagin home city is a mystery to most surface people. They don’t normally go out of their way to attack travellers but many merchant ships find a few free spears stuck to their hulls after passing this area.
