Naga

Amphibious humanoid snakes, who appear superficially like a triton with the lower body of a snake. Unlike yuan-ti, naga are unrelated to humans and are directly descended from snakes.

Game Info

Age

The naga life cycle is similar to humans, except that they are born slightly more developed. A newborn naga can crawl on their own and walk normally before age 1. Naga reach adulthood around age 18.

Size

Naga are medium, and tend to stand about five to six feet tall. Their lower body can elevate them to a height of ten to twelve feet, making a naga's vertical reach much higher than comparable humanoids.

Speed

Their base walking and swim speeds are 30 feet.

Ability Score

Naga have +2 Constitution.

Waterbreathing

Naga can breathe and speak normally underwater.

Hybrid Nature

For game effects, a naga counts as both humanoid and beast.

Serpentine Build

Naga can't meaningfully jump, but can cross 5ft gaps without needing to. They can also climb up to 10ft per turn by only using 5ft of their movement, provided there is a ledge or standable space to climb to. They cannot climb sheer walls with no handholds, but they can climb trees and similar structures without needing a ledge.

A naga may also use 5ft of their movement to become 10ft tall and increase their vertical reach by 5ft. A naga standing this way may ignore partial cover provided by low walls when making ranged attacks.

Hydrophilia

Naga love to swim, and require exposure to water in order to remain healthy.

A naga who spends a day without immersion in water gains a level of exhaustion and becomes unable to cure exhaustion by resting. They require an hour in a body of water unless they are in a very humid environment such as a deep jungle or dank cave.

Constrictor

When a naga successfully hits an opponent with a melee attack they may make a grapple attempt as a bonus action, to constrict their opponent with their tail.

When a creature is grappled this way, the naga deals d6+Strength damage. The naga may spend a bonus action on subsequent turns to deal this damage again, if the opponent is still grappled at the beginning of that turn.
