Overview
The Serpentine Assassins are followers of Santanafensmorderdondactyl. They despise hierarchy and are not organised in a traditional structure of priests, followers, and so on.
There are true believers and clerics who insinuate themselves in society and observe targets and “blades”; individuals normally chosen by a true believer to be supported by the devout and given a target to eliminate at any cost.

Clerics of Santanafensmorderdondactyl and other devotees hide their affiliation in plain sight - just clearly enough to identify eachother and not enough to stand out to anyone not in the know. Santanafensmorderdondactyl sees the world through their eyes and uses them to suppress Kings and Emperors from growing too powerful.
When a power structure solidifies in mainstream society, devotees observing the situation choose assassins from among the local downtrodden and the snakes offer them a mission. In exchange for eliminating this problem they gain access to the network of true believers; shelter and friendship in any gutter in the world.
Some accept out of material need, but the most successful blades are those who understand Santanafensmorderdondactyl's view of the world; that Kings are the enemy of the common good, and that imperialism must be met with terrific violence such that no King dare fill the void the blade creates.
