Zcohcuixodl

Homebrew race for D&D 5th edition by Dick Jarvis

Zcohcuixodl (Pronounced “Shoe-Swicks-oh-dull”) are a nomadic race, divided into several traveling clans. They formerly ruled the city Rithmandis, but their civilization crumbled under the weight of their bizarre arcanical pursuits.

Ancient and Endangered

During the advent of Arcanical technologies the Zcohcuixodl were at the forefront of progress. But in modern times their population has plummeted, and the survivors travel the ring in small, industrious clans. They offer out their knowledge and services on established routes, or explore the wilds for new resources and opportunities.

Architects of Flesh

The political and intellectual elite of Rithmandis were obsessed with the fabrication of life. They developed new avenues in the field of transmutation, and their achievements in the field allowed them to design and create living, breathing creatures.

Their experiments in transmutation led to the creation of many new and novel creatures in Arcadia, including the Dunkles. But some of their creations proved to be too dangerous for the Zcohcuixodl to control. Rithmandis was destroyed from the inside out by the results of these experiments, and the now inhospitable Scapelands are inherited by unspeakable horrors.

Zcohcuixodl Names

Zcohcuixodl are given an intimate name (for use with immediate family and very close friends), a surname (to denote clan), a face name (a nickname for less intimate friends), and a formal name (for strangers).

Their intimate names are constructed with three syllables- the first two are donated from each parent, and the third from their community. Their face names often occur organically, like a nick-name.

Young Zcohcuixodl are given their formal name by the community leader. Formal names are often representative of their occupation or skills. These names are used when doing business with outsiders.
