Prismatic Children of the Divine Light

Homebrew race for D&D 5th edition by Dick Jarvis

A race of mortal beings created by the god Prism, who divided her divine light into seven orders. The Prismatic Children of the Divine Light were delivered to Arcadia at the end of the Formation Era to try and curb Dwarven expansion.

Beings of Light

The Prismatics look like humans, but their bodies are composed of magical monocolored light. Prismatic people have no natural end to their lifespan, but also no avenue for reproduction. Their race is finite in number, their population only ever growing smaller.

Stoic Warriors of Order and Justice

The Prismatic Children of the Divine Light were created several thousand years ago to bring order and justice to a chaotic world. But the problems they were meant to solve have changed so radically that many are unsure what their purpose is in a modern Arcadia. Some retire to enjoy life on the ring, while others seek to continue the fight for order in whatever small ways they can.

The Prismatic people are often quiet and aloof, preferring to remain focused on an immediate task. While this leads many people to believe they have no emotions, the depth of what they feel is as complex and nuanced as most other people; they just have difficulty expressing it.

Prismatic Names

Prismatic Children of the Divine Light were named individually by Prism herself. Their names are treasured things, their last true connection to the Divine Light. Very few suffer shortened versions or nicknames.

Prismatic Names: Eideard, Domhnall, Baraball, Stineag, Murghad, Amhalgaidh, Dagda

Prismatic Traits

Your Prismatic Child of the Divine Light shares the same traits with all others of their kind.

Age. Prismatic People do not age.

Alignment. ⚪ Created by the god of Light, Order, and Justice to carry out her will, few Prismatics stray from this path.

Size. Prismatics are, on average, the same size and height as humans, but their bodies are heavier. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Prismatic Ability Score Increase. Your ability scores increase based on which division of the divine light you belong to. Choose one of the following:

  • Red. Your Strength Score increases by 2.
  • Orange. Your Dexterity Score increases by 2.
  • Yellow. Your Constitution Score increases by 2.
  • Green. Your Wisdom Score increases by 2.
  • Blue. Your Intelligence Score increases by 2.
  • Indigo. Your Charisma Score increases by 2.
  • Violet. Increase any two ability scores by 1 each.

Being of Light. Your body is composed of magical light, represented by several benefits. If you fail to expose yourself to sunlight for at least 1 hour during a day, you lose the following benefits at the end of the day:

  • You are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep.
  • You radiate warmth. Any creature within 5 feet of you, including yourself, has resistance to cold damage and is unharmed by temperatures as low as -50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Innate Spellcasting. You know the Light cantrip. You also know the Color Spray spell, and can cast it a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus. Additionally, when you reach 3rd level, you learn to cast another spell; the spell depends on which division of the divine light you belong to. After you cast this spell, you cannot cast it again until you finish a long rest. Choose one of the following:

  • Red. You can cast Searing Smite once per day. Strength is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
  • Orange. You can cast Longstrider once per day.
  • Yellow. You can cast Compelled Duel once per day. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
  • Green. You can cast Cure Wounds once per day.
  • Blue. You can cast Comprehend Languages once per day.
  • Indigo. You can cast Charm Person once per day. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
  • Violet. You can cast Unseen Servant once per day.

Light Dependency. If you fail to expose yourself to a source of light for at least 1 hour during a day, you suffer 1 level of exhaustion at the end of that day. You can recover from this exhaustion only through magic or by exposing yourself to light for at least 1 hour. The source of light required to fulfill this dependency must be a single source at least as bright as a campfire (40 feet of bright light).

Luminescent. Your body radiates magical light. You naturally cast bright light within 5 feet of yourself, and dim light for an additional 5 feet. You can block this light by covering yourself with thick clothing such as a cape, cloak or robe.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Dwarvish, and one Language of your choice.
