Fruit Trade

Fruit trade is difficult at this time. Without the use of magic, transporting fresh fruit long distances is not feasible. Many fruits that are relatively common and inexpensive where they grow can go for an extremely high price further away.

Dried and powdered fruits are more practically portable, but can still be expensive and are treated by most as luxuries. In some parts of the world, a kilogram of strawberry sugar is worth more than a kilogram of gold.

East Campbell is able to make good business trading fruit, due to its unique makeup.

By region

Citrus fruits are rare worldwide except in the country of Bartok, in central Grand Scar. Many merchant sailors who sail the Marine Chain will keep orange trees living on the decks of their ships, and in some cases sell a few at distant ports for the right price.

Many nightshades are available across most of the world. They grow fairly well anywhere under 60 degrees latitude with some humidity. Black nightshade berries, potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants are easily found outside of deserts.

Prasinian potatoes contain elevated amounts of nicotine compared to their earth counterparts, making them mildly addictive stimulants.

Edible roses such as apples, pears, quinces, apricots, plums, cherries, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, rose hips, hawthorns, and almonds are distributed worldwide but are generally more temperamental than nightshades.

Apples, pears, apricots and cherries grow best between 30 and 60 degrees latitude in climates that experience subzero temperatures in winter. Raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and almonds require a lot of moisture, warm temperatures, and are harmed by intense sunlight so grow best in forested areas under 45 degrees latitude.

East Campbell is the only place where all of the above can be grown without special equipment or climate control.
